[Bucky sounds a little more level than he did in his last post, back to his normal, not oh god I suddenly have superpowers self, and he sounds more vaguely amused/annoyed by the flood than anything else.]

I guess as far as first floods go, that coulda been a lot worse. [And that's all he really wants to say on the subject for right now, if that's cool with the rest of you.]

[Private to Ben]

Hey, kid. I've got your file. [And he's thumbed through it a little and holy shit, your life :|] You got anywhere you wanna meet up and talk? [He figures you're likely to agree to whatever he asks you to do, right off the bat, but he wants to give him the option to pick where he'd like to sit down and talk about stuff.]

I think your friend Nicole has a crush on me.

[He's been waiting anxiously for this, both with curiosity and with dread. There's nothing like hope in him. Only a desire for some kind of familiarity, even if it's just that of a commanding officer being in complete control of his life.

Predictably, and fairly promptly even, his voice completely blank and even:] I am available to report to a designated location.

[--There's a little pause, then Steve's just sounding very amused.]

Yeah? How so?

Back to normal?

[Sigh sigh sigh fine.] Up on deck work for you? Fifteen minutes?

She was following me around during the flood a little. [Which is fine, he's more amused and ~~stupidly~~ flattered because seriously why would he ever complain about an attractive woman showing interest in him?] How do you know her, exactly?

[Oh Bucky what did you get yourself into.] Yessir.

[It had, briefly, occurred to him that maybe he should just kill Bucky and take his file; it could certainly only be helpful to know how complete it is, how far Manticore had actually gotten with their investigation into him both before and after his unit escaped. If there's anything on this new organization's agenda for him in there. But he's surrounded by enemies, alone, with no exit strategy - it would be a shortlived satisfaction to finally know, and rather than just kill him, they might remand him for testing or feed him to the Nomlies.

So fourteen minutes later, Ben and his crutches are making their way methodically around the perimeter of the deck, politely wary as he looks for the man he remembers introducing himself days before as "Bucky."]

[He's stalking everything he can here. Not... that there's really anything yet that he can stalk because these communicator's are annoying like that. But he'll be checking in just in case.

Because he's drawing lines down this ship damnit. There's Steve's big old merry red white and blue cookie cutter 1940's boyscout brigade over on that side, and Erik has his own little niche off in scrapyardia and psychoto-ville. Meanwhile, Tony will just be out in camp really fucking kickass with Pepper. And an alien. And a teleporting barkeep.]

[Another little pause.]

I -- work with her and Stark. Keep it quiet, though, her name's not actually Nicole. It's Natasha.

[There was definitely some pretty impressive eyebrow raising when Bucky read through his file, because holy shit, kid, you had a lot of stuff you were going to need to work through. And honestly, Bucky wasn't really sure he was the guy for the job. He wasn't a therapist, he didn't know the first thing about rationalizing with a serial killer. If they were back home and he was "assigned" to someone like Ben, he was likely to just shoot him and go on to the next target.

So he sort of felt like he was a little in over his head.

That said, he was willing to give it a shot, and he wasn't about to just throw in the towel on the first assignment he ever got here. So he was waiting on deck for Ben, still wearing his regular army uniform, and turns towards him when he sees him coming, taking in the crutches and cast again.]

How's your knee?

Natasha? [Well. Things just got a little more interesting.] Why's she lying about her name?

[Quite frankly, shooting him would probably be kinder; unfortunately it would also, here, be only a temporary solution and likely to exacerbate the situation. Besides, he's calm enough anyway, he hasn't caused any problems with the exception of one fight in a hallway that he had to be provoked into and also gained permission to participate in, and stopped as soon as it was over.

All in all, not the most disruptive serial killer ever, really.

He's wearing a grey t-shirt and his black BDU pants, and as soon as he sees Bucky, he moves over and stops at a polite distance, drawing himself up to loose attention. He's adapted to the crutches like they're not even there anymore.]

Sir. Chief Medical Officer McCoy will remove the cast in two days. It no longer hurts at all.

[He was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for now, but Bucky would be watching him like a hawk for the most part. And it didn't seem like it would be difficult to figure out when he had killed someone, taking out the teeth was sort of a calling card.

So he nods, not really sure how much he's on board with Ben really treating him like a superior officer. It's not unusual, not really, considering he'd been a Sergeant and not just a private or something, but it still wasn't like he'd been in charge. When they were under fire, no one had to listen to him, even if he'd been pretty good at determining when was a good time to run and when to hunker down in the foxhole.]

That's good. Were you affected by the flood?

[He had his suspicions, really, but it never hurt to double check/try to poke him into talking more than just a sentence or two at a time.]

[Ben only has a specific selection of modes for how to react to other people; Bucky isn't a unit mate or another transgenic, and he's not a civilian. He isn't, yet, marked as a dreaded and scorned Nomlie. That leaves superior officer and, if the file is anything to go by, could be either good or bad.

He's certainly, after all, not Zack.]

I can't say for certain, sir. I... [And here he does falter because he'd hated feeling slow and stupid, and he has no context for what he had liked. He knows what was supposedly going on thanks to the network, but as for how he felt himself?] It's possible. My abilities were severely impaired and, in some cases, completely absent. I did not seize until it was over. [Another hesitation, and he amends carefully, and not without a certain amount of focused attention on Bucky for a reaction to the very last part.] It's likely, but I can't confirm. My abilities are still impaired. [ :| ]

I might've swapped with you for a while, unless there's another person on board who can do what you do, and I think that's how it works here for a while. Once we've made some progress, we can talk to the Admiral about getting you back to normal.

The infirmary knows about the seizures? [Because that seems like an important thing to get out of the way and resolved before it happens and you end up dying or something. :|]

[Nothing, specifically, changes at this news; he's not sure he believes it, of course, but he's nowhere near dumb enough to call his new warden a liar straight out of the gates. Nothing changes in his voice, or his expression, or the set of his shoulders - but somehow, his question has a bit more of an arch tone to it than previously.] Were you impaired when you had my abilities?

[He doesn't protest the rest - he doesn't like it but it's hardly the first time he's been changed to suit the purposes of someone else, someone he will probably never see or speak to. The Admiral is hardly any different from the program directors at Manticore and he sees no point in doing more than marking his existence until such time as he has more information, or a way to reach him.]

Yes. I became unable to control them yesterday, but was assisted to the Infirmary and a regimen has been established to prevent it from happening again. [He hesitates, then leans very heavily on the emphasis for his next statement, eyes narrowed - and perhaps a very, very brief flash of fear.] I don't have the seizure flaw. My deficiency is completely manageable with the proper pharmaceuticals.

It's what she does. She's a spy. [For the most part.] We work with a group called SHIELD.

Am I allowed to tell her I'm in the know?

I'd appreciate it if you didn't, she might kick my ass from here to Jersey.

Apparently. [NATASHA he knows now but beating up Steve is a bad thing so he will be quiet for now. Once your name comes up on a pairing announcement though. C:] Gotta say, I'll miss parts of it. Kinda fun to do some of the stuff.

[That's sort of concerning, but really Bucky's pretty relieved it apparently all got taken care of pretty hassle free. So he just nods, glad it's being monitored and hopefully won't happen again. From what he's seen, the staff on board is pretty competent, and hopefully Ben's smart enough to be alright with approaching them when he needed the meds.]

Good.

[And he shrugs a little at the first question.] I don't think so. I mean, I don't know, I've never been a transgenic before. Inmates come in with their abilities reduced. Once we get to know each other a little better, we can talk about getting them back to normal, alright?

[With the exception of having access to the actual medications, it was convenient for Manticore to train its soldiers to be able to maintain themselves until or unless a doctor became available to do so; Ben is surprisingly good about being forthcoming with injuries or maladies that he cannot control.

It's the ones he knows he might get into some kind of trouble for exhibiting that will, in the long run, be the problem if any. He considers what he's been told about his abilities and, if he believes Bucky or has any opinion on it at all, it's not readily visible.

Instead.] I have been informed that I am assigned here for social and moral retraining.

[That's more formally put than he's heard anyone else say it, including the Admiral, and really he's not all that sure that putting it that way is any better than saying you're here to be redeemed because you fucked up while you were alive, and now you were here for a second chance.]

That's right. Once you're done here, you can go back home, or somewhere else, and have a life again.
