(And suddenly, he can't help wondering how his Bucky showed up -)
But this Bucky doesn't have a metal arm - he definitely would have noticed that - so he must have gotten whatever medical attention he'd needed to heal. Or maybe his serum had been better. Or a hundred other things, and Steve wants to ask but the way that smile faded, even just for a second, is enough to tell him he shouldn't.
Except he just looks sick all over again at Bucky's second snide remark, because things might somehow be different, but they also sound so much the same that it's dizzying and terrifying all at once. And part of it makes him mad - mad enough that the hurt look manages to morph, just a little, into anger on his face, and his voice is steady when he says,] That sounds like HYDRA.
And that's not how it's supposed to be. [There's so much more that matters, in life. And if he's got to teach his Bucky that, someday... well, maybe this Bucky has to learn it, too.] So your deal, then - it'd be to survive, wouldn't it?
[It's an awfully personal question, but he can't stop himself from asking it.]
