They were already winning the war when they caught most of my unit in Italy. Thanks to you. Most of the other guys wound up at a work camp. [Not him, though. He'd apparently impressed people when he hadn't just up and surrendered at first, and that's when he got offered the deal.]
Obviously I didn't know who "the Kapitän" was until Zola introduced us, but I guess it was kinda nice to see a familiar face.
[He still doesn't know what convinced Steve to do it in the first place. They hadn't talked in years, and all Steve had ever offered was that he agreed with HYDRA and wanted to do his job. Not that Bucky's pushed especially hard. It's easy enough to just go along with what he's told.]
